Ed Monarch, Council Member - Elected 1997, Current Term of Office 2010

council_monarch2A City Council member since 1997, Council Member Ed Monarch served as Mayor in 2005-2006 and in 2000-2001, and as mayor pro tem from 1999-2000. He was first elected to the council in March 1997 to fill an unexpired term, and was re-elected in 1998. In November 2001, he was again re-elected to serve a four-year term. He began his service to Indian Wells as a member of the Planning Commission.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Indian Wells Town Hall Speaker Series and served as president in 2006-07. He is Vice President of the Palm Springs Art Museum, a Trustee of the McCallum Theatre, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Betty Ford Center, as well as  a member of their Chairman’s Council.  He also is a member of the Board of Sunline Transit.

Council Member Monarch currently serves on the Indian Wells Marketing Committee, is a member and past chairman of the Cove Communities Services Commission and is a member of the City of Indian Wells Finance Committee.

A retired businessman, he owned groups of retail stores in several Mid-Atlantic States. Council Member Monarch holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Pennsylvania State University. He and his wife Ellen have lived in Indian Wells since 1992.
