IW Arts Festival
The 6th Annual INDIAN WELLS ARTS FESTIVAL is scheduled for April 4, 5 & 6, 2008 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Home of the Pacific Life Open. More than 200 award winning artists will transform the magnificent path-lined plaza into a spectacular festival experience. Indian Wells is conveniently located in the heart of the Southern California -- Palm Springs/Desert Resort communities.
More than 10,000 attended last year’s Festival, from local residents and tourists to serious buyers and collectors. Art sales topped $900,000. With a celebrated reputation for its quality and wide variety of fine art and craft, artists travel from throughout the country to participate. Selected by jury process, they are on hand to explain and demonstrate the techniques that created hundreds of pieces of one-of-a-kind artwork available for purchase. Offerings include painting, drawing, ceramics, glass, photography, sculpture, jewelry, apparel and hand-crafted wares.
You don’t need to be an art aficionado to enjoy the Indian Wells Arts Festival. Everyone loves to watch the on site demonstrations including glass blowing, painting, weaving, large scale stone sculpturing, mural painting, wood carving and pottery throwing. This year’s special exhibits include a hands-on approach to viewing art with “Art Beyond the Visual” incorporating Braille elements, while “The Tour de Trash -- Recycle Bicycles” sponsored by Palm Springs Life adds a bit of fun and whimsy.
Returning is the 3rd Annual “Chef Masterpieces,” a private tasting presented by local chefs and sponsored by the Indian Wells Chamber of Commerce. A Gourmet Market Place offers gourmet specialties, Art Market offers art products, and sidewalk chalk drawing, children’s activities, wine tasting, musical entertainment and refreshment are happening throughout the day.
The Indian Wells Arts Festival incorporates a number of local charities as partners in the Festival and donates to their art scholarship funds. Participating organizations include College of the Desert Art Guild, The Children s Discovery Museum of the Desert, Student Creative Recycle Art Program (SCRAP) Gallery, The Braille Institute, The Champions Volunteer Foundation and Palm Desert Soroptomist.
Festival Producer, Dianne Funk, states: “The Indian Wells Arts Festival is designed to create a great event experience and community celebration. The creative synergy of demonstrating artists, local sponsors and partners enhances our venue with vibrant activity. Join the synergy; validate the vision: See Art at work…it is fun, exciting and dynamic! “
