The IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells La Quinta triathlon took place Sunday, December 9, attracting over 2,300 athletes. Since January 2018, the City has worked with the team at IRONMAN, the Cities of Indio, La Quinta and Palm Desert, the County of Riverside Emergency Management, the California Highway Patrol, the Riverside County Sheriff, the County Fire Department, American Medical Response and local police agencies to create a traffic plan that would accommodate the race while having minimal impact on residents and businesses.
The City notified residents of traffic routes via email, social media, standard post mail and road signs leading up to the day of the competition. The inaugural event had an impact on traffic as roads were closed to accommodate race routes. It was never our intention to cause our residents or business community stress and frustration. We will evaluate and improve upon our processes and implement improvements for the future.
To strengthen communications with the City, we encourage you to sign up to receive informative emails and to follow our resident-focused Facebook page. These platforms provide a convenient means of communication and keep residents up to date on events, news and activities. These channels also make it easier for residents to provide feedback and suggestions, which we value and appreciate.
