Indian Wells Golf Resort April Course Updates

April is the start of the 2nd quarter of the year, and usually this quarter is one of the best times to play golf in the desert. Temperatures are much warmer and the daylight tends to allow some wonderful twilight golf experiences.  The conditions of the golf courses are in tip top shape and if you get a chance to play them, you’re certain to have a good time.

April also brings some wonderful events to our facility. The Senior Masters Tournament, one of the premiere Senior Amateur events in the country, will play 4 rounds of golf on our 2 wonderful courses. These players represent some of the best senior players from around the world, and this is one of the best stops on their yearlong schedule. Our conditions in April always lead to a great competition with numerous players scoring under par.

The dormant Bermuda on the Players Course is starting to green up and this will continue to improve the playing conditions.  While out on the Players Course, you might notice some new landscape projects being worked on, specifically the baranaca between #5 and #14.  Our plan is to clean out this area, remove some weeds and plant material, trim up some trees and improve the playability and look of this area. This kind of improvement will help golfers locate some errant shots and possibly allow for some recovery shots, but it’ll still be a daunting task to make par if your golf ball ends up there.

The Celebrity Course is also in prime shape with wildflowers blooming and course conditions flourishing. As you make your way around this Clive Clark gem, you’ll be able to see landscape improvements including some projects where we’ve added mulch and new plants. You’ll also see detail work being done in and around some of the lakes and streams, as well as the waterfalls. It takes a lot of work and effort to keep these areas looking crisp, especially when the temperatures begin to elevate. Soon, the transition from Ryegrass back to Bermuda will occur and the summer cultivation projects will begin, but for now we’ll just continue to maintain and enjoy the conditions out there.

The Pavilion landscapes have recently been touched up with some fresh mulch to give it a great look all around this area. The plants are blooming and look beautiful and both the East and West Lawns look amazing, ready to host weddings and other functions.

Currently, we’re working on the lower range tees and targets (new sod), and we hope to have things back in operation around the 1st of May.  We hope to welcome Golf Made Simple back to our facility at that time. They are a great partner and we hope to enhance our relationship moving forward. The major cleanup of the wash (sand and debris removal) took about 2-3 weeks to complete and our goal is to spend the month of April trying to grow in all the Bermuda and get things back to normal.  We have some more sod work to do on the east end of the range for the teaching tees and we’ll probably fortify the 2 lower bridges with some sod surrounding them and the concrete paths.
