The City of Indian Wells recently hired a college intern, Estefania Astorga. A student at California State University, San Bernardino, Estefania applied for the internship after she became interested in learning more about local government. Her previous work history includes time as a medical intern, administrative work in higher education and data entry for a local health organization.
“I was used to working within a university setting, and I wanted to try something new,” said Estefania. “I’m excited to learn about how a City works and all of the functions that are essential to keep a city running smoothly.”
Her current role entails assisting the Department of Public Safety with creating and modifying their Emergency Operation Plans and emergency contact lists.
“In the future, I would also consider spending part of my career working for a larger city to see how the challenges and opportunities differ in cities of varying sizes,” she said.
The City recruits for interns in the Finance and City Manager Departments by advertising openings in the Career Services Departments at local colleges. Any students with an interest are welcome to apply.
