The arts and culture scene in Indian Wells and surrounding desert resort communities is alive and thriving! In addition to world-class museums and sophisticated art galleries, the Palm Springs Desert Resorts play host to many acclaimed annual art festivals. They include the Indian Wells Arts Festival, Southwest Arts Festival, La Quinta Arts Festival, Palm Springs Modernism Week, Rancho Mirage Art Affaire, and several more. Weekly and monthly happenings “in-season” also showcase local and visiting artists. These include Art Under the Umbrellas at Old Town La Quinta, The Art Place First Friday and El Paseo Art Walk in Palm Desert, Backstreet Art District in Palm Springs, and frequent openings and receptions. Agua Caliente Cultural Museum
Permanent and changing exhibits portray the history and culture of the Cahuilla Indians. Exquisite basketry, artifacts, and archival photographs are displayed in the lobby of the tribe's Spa Resort at 100 N. Indian Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs.

Cabot's Indian Pueblo Museum
Adventurer Cabot Yerxa built this Hopi-inspired Pueblo in the early 1900s. This unique, 5,000 square-foot structure is handmade; created with reclaimed and found objects. Its 35 rooms house Americana and Native American artifacts.

The Museum campus encompasses a 1926 adobe house, 1909 Schoolhouse, extensive gardens, and soon-to-be-opened Date Museum, a blacksmith shop, and Coachella Valley Historical Society archives.

General George Patton Museum
The General Patton Memorial Museum is a military history museum with exhibits ranging from World War I through the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Established in 1988 to honor the memory of General George Patton, the museum is located at the heart of the Desert Training Center from World War II.

Located 30 miles east of Indio on the I-10 Freeway. Exit at the Chiriaco Summit (exit 173) Open Monday through Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Art Indian Wells

Indian Wells Original Art Collection
Forty-four pieces of art in mostly original media adorn the interiors of the IW Club at Indian Wells Golf Resort. The works from nationally known artists range from floor and wall-mounted sculptures to paintings, pottery, poster artwork, and more. Nationally known artists include Woods Davey, Rosemary Lonewolf, Tony Jojola (who studied under Dale Chihuly), and Tom Tuberty.

Indian Wells Art Festival
This annual outdoor festival held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden showcases a wide array of fine art and high quality crafts in a variety of media including painting, drawing, pottery, photography, sculpture, glass, and jewelry. Highlights also include a gourmet marketplace, wine tasting, children’s activities, live entertainment, refreshments, artist demonstrations, and more.

Coachella Valley Art Districts, Palm Springs
Art galleries are in abundance in Palm Springs, which can be divided into three art districts. The first is the Downtown Village section, the site of many art galleries, as well as the Palm Springs Art Museum. There are more galleries in Midtown/Uptown Palm Springs, and additional galleries in the South Palm Springs and Backstreet Art District, commonly called “SoDo.” For detailed information and links to individual galleries, visit

El Paseo Art Galleries
This upscale retail and restaurant district on El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert encompasses more than 20 museum-quality art galleries showcasing countless works of art. All the galleries on El Paseo Drive host the popular El Paseo Art Walk on the first Thursday of each month, October through May, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. For gallery and event details, visit

The Art Place Palm Desert
Also in Palm Desert, The Art Place at 41-801 Corporate Way showcases a variety of art, furnishings and home décor. The Art Place galleries are conveniently located within a short city block. Old Town La Quinta
Located in the east valley village of La Quinta, Old Town La Quinta features unique stores, restaurants, and galleries in a setting reminiscent of an outdoor European boutique shopping district. The merchants of Old Town sponsor a number of events throughout the year, including the weekly Concerts on the Lawn and, in partnership with the La Quinta Arts Foundation, Art Under the Umbrellas. Public Art Programs
In addition to the IW Club art collection, a number of Desert Resort cities have established innovative public art programs. In Palm Desert you’ll find more than 140 museum-quality works of art ranging from functional pieces like city bus shelters to giant abstract sculptures. A complimentary map to tour the city’s art collection is available at the Palm Desert Visitors Center. Palm Springs now offers nearly 30 pieces of public art.
