The Indian Wells Planning Commission (Commission) are appointed by the City Council and serves in an advisory capacity. The Commission consist of five commissioners registered voters within the City of Indian Wells. The City Municipal Code Section 2.12.020 outlines the Commission duties as follows: prepare and recommend plans that may be necessary or desirable to carry out objectives of the General Plan; administer the State Subdivision Map Act and California Environmental Quality Act; review zoning, conditional use and variance applications; review and approve sign matters specified by the Code; and perform a variety of other functions. The Planning Commission meets at City Hall on the last Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m.
The Architecture and Landscape Committee was dissolved in 2020 and the City established a Design Review Committee (DRC) as a subcommittee of the Planning Commission. The DRC consists of two (2) appointed Planning Commissioners and the Community Development Director. The DRC meets on an as-needed basis to review applications for minor remodels or additions in accordance with Section 21.06.020 Municipal Code.
