Ongoing Efforts
In January 2020, as part of their annual Strategic Planning effort, the Indian Wells City Council authorized staff to proceed with a comprehensive update to the city’s General Plan. The City’s General Plan was originally adopted in 1996 and has been routinely updated as a matter of practice pursuant to the State’s General Plan laws. State law requires the Housing Element to be updated every eight years. The City’s current Housing Element is for the period 2013 through 2021. Continuing their focus on economic development, in June 2020, the City contracted with Kosmont Companies to conduct an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD) feasibility study aimed at evaluating existing vacant land and future development opportunities’ potential to partially self-fund large scale infrastructure improvements and help drive business and development in the remaining undeveloped areas of the city.
