The City's stately palm trees have a defined life span, and when they reach their later stages - often at heights from 50 to 70 feet representing 70-90 years in age - the trees can become susceptible to disease and insect infestation. These ailments can lead to significant increase in browning and loss of palm fronds and/or loss of the crown at the top of the tree altogether - or even toppling of a tree. A high wind event may also worsen damage in a weakened tree, while falling fronds, crowns, and trees can even result in major property damage or harm to people if struck by debris. In addition, the Indian Wells Municipal Code requires all property owners to trim their Date Palm Trees by June 30th and their Washingtonian and other fan palms by July 30th every year.
